How the quote says interest is charged

Not sure? Ask – it's worth knowing. A flat rate keeps charging on money you have already repaid, so the same percentage costs more.

Before you sign

Seven questions worth asking at the counter.

Any branch can answer all of these on the spot – and put the answers on the form.

What is the total amount I will repay?
Not just the monthly instalment – the full figure with every charge included. It is the one number that lets you compare loans.
What is the interest rate, and is it charged flat or on a reducing balance?
The same percentage costs substantially more on a flat basis than on a reducing balance, because a flat rate keeps charging on money you have already repaid.
Which fees are added, and what is each one called?
Ask for them by name – application, processing, insurance, disbursement – rather than accepting a single combined figure.
How much will actually reach my hands?
If any charges are deducted at disbursement, the amount you receive differs from the amount you are borrowing. Ask for both figures.
What happens if a repayment is late?
Ask for the charge, how it is calculated, and whether it repeats. Better to know before you sign than after.
What happens to the balance if my employment ends?
These loans are assessed against your salary, so it is worth knowing the answer before you sign rather than afterwards.
May I take the agreement away and read it before signing?
A lender confident in its pricing has no reason to refuse. Ultimate Finance states that every charge is disclosed on the application form.
